This project is oriented around removing "ladder fuels" (medium-sized
vegetation, that acts as a ladder by allowing a fire in the
pine needles to reach the trees) from properties. The removal
of these fuels also helps bring our forest to a more natural
state. This project works in conjunction with the work the
U.S. Forest Service is doing on surrounding forest property.
No. The prescription calls for removal of all trees and brush
with a trunk diameter of five inches and below. However, there
are other factors that we keep in mind while working on your
property. These factors include leaving decorative trees, privacy
trees (if these don't pose a hazard), and other trees that
you select to keep. Before work starts on your property, we
will consult with you on these issues.
Also, you may see a lot of tree removal going
on in the community by a company called ASPLUND. This is a
project unrelated to the GCFD Defensible Space Project. Asplundh
is a company contracted by Arizona Public Service to remove
hazard trees from APS easements.
For those residents who do their own work,
we ask that you fill out this simple form.
Homeowner participation form is the tracking mechanism
for folks who are performing hazardous fuels reduction on
their property (by themselves or via contractors) that conforms
with the grant project. This allows the project to these
costs and receive a dollar for dollar match in funds. These
matching funds are crucial to the success of the total project.
We estimated that 10% of the grant work would be done without
fire dept assistance. Click
here to fill out a Homeowner Participation Credit form.
The service charges really depend on a few factors. These
factors include things such as parcel size, services requested,
structure size, vegetation loading, etc. Before we start any
work, we will consult with you on your needs/requests and
you will know in advance the cost of your project.
