As we have heard and read on various news media, from the Department of Forest Forestry and Fire Management, the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors, the Prescott Area Wildland Urban Interface Commission and the Prescott National Forest, this year 2018 we are expecting a very high level of fire activity statewide. We are reaching out to the entire GCFD community to become FIREWISE! We as a community, owe it to ourselves and our neighbors to do everything we can to become FireWise. You are invited to the Groom Creek Fire Districts Website https://www.groomcreek.org and then go to the FireWise drop down menu where you can learn what you can do to your home to be better prepared for a Wildfire. This site is full of great information on this topic.
Once you have met the FireWise requirements, you will be able to proudly post on your property, a sign that states you are “FIREWISE”. Those of you that already have a Firewise sign posted out in front of your home that has an outdated year decal, you need to get re-assessed so you can continue to correctly post your sign with the 2018 decal. Even if you cannot meet all of the FireWise requirements, maybe you can rake the needles 30’ away from your home, clean your roof, your gutters and remove any possible fire danger away from your home. Anything is better than doing nothing.
In support of our community’s FIREWISE efforts, the Groom Creek Fire District will once again be picking up our resident’s bagged pine needles and leaf litter that they have raked up from their properties which definitely makes our community more Firewise. If you would like to take part in this program here’s all that you have to do…
- Email your request that includes your Name, Email, Groom Creek Address, Phone Number, and the Number of Bags that you have to be picked up.
- Once we receive your request we will email you an invoice for the pick-up. Only one dollar a bag to help us cover the dump fees.
- Once we receive your payment, we will email you a confirmation of your payment and an estimated pick up date.
Let us all enjoy our wonderful community and let’s be FireWise. If you still need more details on what you can do to accomplish this goal, please contact the Groom Creek Fire District at (928) 778-6519.
